Mt. and Mrs. B. McCarthy, of Hawera, leave to-day on a visit to A us_ trails, where they intend to stay for about six weeks.
A Brisbane message reports the death of Mr. J. W. M'Laren, a member of the Australian eleven in the 1912 English tour.
A vote of sympathy with Mr. D. Alexander, of Tikorangi, in the recent loss of his wife was passed by the general committee of the Taranaki Agricultural Society at a meeting yesterday. At Wednesday’s meeting of the Eltham Bowling Club a vote of sympathy was passed to the bereaved relatives of Mr. W. Rundle, the veteran New Plymouth bowler, whose death occurred last week.—Argus.
His Grace Archbishop Cattaneo, the Papal Delegate to Australasia, who, accompanied by Archbishops Redwood and O’Shea, is making a pastoral tour of New Zealand, will arrive at Palmerston North on Tuesday afternoon next, and will remain overnight, proceeding to Wanganui and New Plymouth the following day.
The death occurred at Hamilton on Tuesday of Mr. Wilfred Burt Aston, a member of the firm of Gillies, Ferguson and Aston, solicitors, of Hamilton. The late Mr. Aston was 35 years of age, and was wounded at the war. Mr. Aston, who was a son of the Chief Government Analyst, was popular amongst his associates, and was a clever young lawyer. He had been in more or less indifferent health for some time. He did not recover from the shock of an operation. He leaves a wife and child. Mrs. Aston is a daughter of Colonel Purdy, Director of Medical Supplies during the war.
