EXAGGERATED RUMORS.

OF NEW GUINEA EMBEZZLEMENTS. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Melbourne, Nov. 17. Mr. Lucas, chairman of the New Guinea Expropriation Board, is at present visiting Melbourne. He says that the suggested rumors of embezzlement in New Guinea are greatly exaggerated. The board engaged a staff of 150 men in connection with which there were some irregularities, entailing five prosecutions. One man was sentenced to eight months' imprisonment for embezzling £BOO.
