A RAJA’S ROMANCE.
.MIXED MARRIAGE DIFFICULTY. SON NOT RECOGNISED. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. London, Nov. 16. Difficulties in which love and romance play a prominent part have arisen between the Raja of Paduksta and his subjects. The Raja married an. Australian lady, and both are devotedly attached to one another and to their son. Both the Raja and his wife have been received at the Ki ng-Emperor’s court, but, while this recognition was accorded to the Raja’s wife, the Government of India has refused to recognise the son as heir to the throne, on the ground that only a full-blooded Indian could succeed. « The Raja, therefore, refuses to return to rule his State, despite the entreaties of his subjects, who are memorialising the Secretary of State, the Viceroy, and the Government of India. There is some talk of sending a deputation of the subjects to Europe to urge the Raja to return. In the event of the Raja refusing it is probable the Government will appoint a regent.
