VISIT OF THE BISHOP.
NEW PLYMOUTH APPOINTMENTS. The Bishop of Auckland (the Right Rev. A. W. Averill, D.D.) will be in New Plymouth next Week for his periodical visit. His programme in this neighborhood commences with a church conference of clergy and laymen from the entire archdeaconry, to be held at St. Mary’s on Wednesday (8 pm.) and Thursday (10.15 a.m. and 2.30 p.m.) next. This conference will discuss various matters of. interest and importance to churchmen, and the sittings, which will be held in the Parish Hall, are open to the public, who are cordially invited. The conference will open with plain evensong in the church at 7.30 p.m. on Wednesday. The bishop will hold a confirmation service at Holy Trinity Church, Te Henui, on Friday. On Sunday, Nov. 27, which will be the 78th anniversary of the arrival of Bishop Selwyn. with the first vicar here in 1843, and will be kept as usual as the dedication festival at St. Mary’s. The bishop will celebrate holy communion at St. Mary’s at 8 a.m.; in the afternoon he will dedicate the roll of honor in the church and the company flag presented bj' Major Urquhart, at 3 p.m.; and at 7 p.m., instead of the usual evening service, he will confirm a number of boys from the High School. At 11 a.m. he will preach at Te Henui. The bishop will spend the next day, Monday, 28th, in the Okato district, returning to Auckland by the Rarawa on Tuesday. OTHER ENGAGEMENTS. Dr. Averill will carry out engagements as follow: Confirmation at Whangamomona tonight at 7.30. To-morrow the bishop will attend at St. Mary’s School, Stratford, at 3 o’clock, it having been decided to hold speech day as previously arranged. On z Sunday the bishop preaches at Toko 11 a.m., Midhirst 2.30 pm., and Stratford 7 p.m. A confirmation service will be held at Stratford at 7.30 p.m. no Monday, and the bishop will also attend a men’s meeting at eight o’clock the same evening.
