SCOTCH CONCERT.

AN ENJOYABLE PROGRAMME. A concert organised in aid of the New Plymouth Presbyterian manse fund was held in the Workers’ Social Hall last night, and drew a large audience. Scotch songs were made a feature of the programme, and a number of concerted items were given by St. Andrew’s choir, who acquitted themselves well, under the baton of Mr. D. Morrison. They were responsible for some pleasing singing of the national airs, and opened the programme with a truly appropriate number in “Scots Wha Hae.” Thev were also heard to advantage in “Annie Laurie,” “My Ain Folk” and “Auld Lang Syne.” In “Bonnie Wood of Craigielca” Mr. C. H. Wyatt (soloist) and the choir earned a well-merited encore. Solos by Mrs. F. C. Ferry were popular. This vocalist gave as her opening number “Robin Adair,” “Carmona.” and "Can Ye Sew Cushions” being sung in response to -ecalls. In the second portion of the programme Mrs. Ferry contributed “Com in Thro’ the Rye,” '“Daddy and Babsy” and “String of Pearls.” Mrs. V. Dull was well-suited in the solo, “Bonnie Banks of Loch Lomond.” and in response to a recall sang with good effect "Wandering Wind.” Miss Leitch, who was heard in “Angus Macdonald,” of which she gave a capable interpretation, was recalled. and sang “The Rowan Tree.” After a fine rendering of “Bonnie Mary of Argyle,” Mr. J. R. Baird repin'd to a double encore with "Take a Pair of Sparkling Eyes” and “I Passed by Your Window.” * He appeared later in the evening to fill a vacancy in the programme, contributing “Evening Twilight” and “My Task.” A quartette consisting of Mrs. Avery, Miss Leitch.
