AUSTRALIA v. SOUTH AFRICA, AFRICANS FOLLOW ON. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Capetown, Nov. 14. The weather was perfect and the wicket fast. The attendance was 15,000. A series of remarkable incidents marked the South Africans’ opening. Frank was thrown out by a fine return from Bardsley in deep field. Without further score a fast delivery of Macdonald’s broke the shoulder of Zulch’s bat and a splinter removed his ball. Lindsay hit his wicket, and three wickets were lost for 16 runs. Taylor and Nourse made an effort by sound batting to retrieve the position, and carried the total to 95 against good bowling. Macdonald kept a fine length and had a good spin. The fielding was also excellent. Pellew, acting as a substitute, dismissed Nourse by a fine catch. Collins changed the bowlers freely. Marx played a useful innings, and lasted till the score had reached 189 for eight wickets. Blanckenburg and Nupen made a capital stand for the ninth wicket, frequently pasting the bowlers to the boundary. They put on 54, but failed to avert a follow on. With a deficit of 207 South Africa . started the second innings, and had lost one wicket for 39 when time was called. Gregory bowled In great form all day. The bowling honors were gained by Bradmore and Boyd (Waverley) and Harding and Mercer (Patea). SOUTH TARANAKI RESULTS. Following are the results of the, competition matches played in South Taranaki on Saturday : ERtham defeated Midlands by one run—97 to 96. Okaiawa defeated Manaia by five runs—76 to 71. Excelsior scored a three-point win over Kapooga. The latter’s scores were 41 and 78, and Excelsior made 76 in the first innings and 48 for the loss of two wickets in the second innings. Beachy 36, Pratt 34, and C. Little 30, were the best scores in the matches. In a second innings by Manaia, C. Mackay made 48. Machin (Excelsior) took eight wickets for 15 runs; Stewart (Eltham), took one wicket for 0 runs. In tho B grade matches Manaia defeated Eltham by 34, securing a three-point win. A friendly game between Hawera B and Technical High School ended in a draw, eaeh side making 85 runs. SOUTH TARANAKI SCHOOL FIXTURES.
