SOUTHERN MARKETS. VERY LITTLE BUSINESS. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christchurch, Last Night. The intervention of carnival week did not disturb business in the grain and produce market, as there has been very little doing. The new tariff on oats has given a little heartening in oat circles, and is certain to have an effect on the quantity of. Algerians imported from Australia to Auckland in future. The duty will approximate about 7d per bushel, and should have the effect of diverting more attention from the nortn next Season to the South Island Algerians. As the result of the tariff there is a slightly better tone locally, though there is no improvement in values, which may be quoted at up to 2s 9d at nearby country stations for A grade Gartons and 2s 7d tor B's. There has been a little enquiry from the north for forward, business for next season’s oats, but no business is reported. LONDON MARKETS. HIGH COMMISSIONER’S CABLED REPORT.
