ESCAPED PRISONER. SENTENCED, By Telegraph.—Press Association. Dunedin, Nov. 15. Allan Aiteheson, the escaped prisoner, who was captured on Sunday, was charged this morning with having escaped from legal custody. He was sentenced to an extra twelve months on his five years’ sentence. Aiteheson was sent north under an escort of two constables to the Paparua prison. PRESBYTERIANS AND DEFENCE ECONOMY. Dunedin, Nov. 15. The Presbyterian Assembly passed a resolution that in view of the activity of the League of Nations at the Washington Conference, the New Zealand Government be urged to reduce expenditure on defence to a minimum for at least five years in order to set free money for reproductive works and giving work to the unemployed. IMMIGRATION STATISTICS. Wellington. Nov. 15. Immigration and emigration figures for the six months ended September 30 only disclose a gain of 882, owing to the large number of visitors who left during that period. Actual figures, however, of permanent residents arriving, are 7395, against 1031 leaving, and thia shows an actual gain of 6364. SALVATION ARMY SELF-DENIAL. Wellington, Nov. 15. The Salvation Army’s self-denial appeal has raised close on £50,000, as against £57,000 last year. The result is considered most satisfactory under the circumstances. The Wellington division contributed £6llB, including Blenheim £llOO, Nelson £lO7O, Wellington City £2llO. Auckland gave £12,638. Christchurch £7BOO and Dunedin :£sBlB. The Central North Division gave £13,938, including Wanganui £1238, New Plymouth £lOOl, Gisborne £lBlO, Masterton £lOlB.
