Thirteen women and fifty-three men were summoned by the Sheriff as jurors from which a jury had to be chosen to try Arbuckle. J. Medley, the first talesman (juror/ called was asked: “Are you a cinema lover?” He assented. Then he was asked: “Do you think Arbuckle is the greatest comedian on the screen ?” Ho replied: “No, I think Chaplin is away ahead of him.” Then stating he would give due weight to circumstantial evidence the State challenged him. The State had twenty questions tor each juror. It is estimated that anywhere from two days to a week will bo needed to choose the jury. District Attorney Brady repeated his challenge to the defence to put Arbuckle on the witness stand, but the defence has not yet decided whether to accept. The courtroom was filled with welldressed and bejewelled women. Three men and one woman were temporarily accepted for jury duty at the end of the day, following bitter wrangling and charges by the defence and the prosecution. One old venireman (juror), who was examined for an hour and a half, took an active part in the dis* cussions, which the Judge restrained with difficulty.
