AUSTRALIA v. SOUTH AFRICA. SECOND TEST MATCH. / By Telegraph.—Tress Assn.—Copyright. Received Nor. 13, 5.5 p.m. Capetown, Nov. 12. , « second te^fc 'match between Australia and South Africa was played at Johannesburg in cool and showery weather. The attendance was 9000. AustraUa, in the first innings, made 450. The batsmen opened brightly on an easy wicket. With tlie score at 60 rain stopped play. Ryder and Collins played sound, chancekss cricket. When the latter was joined by Gregory the bowlers were unable to obtain a spin on the dead wicket, and runs came freely. Gregory, punishing rhe bowling in amazing fashion, reached the century in seventy minutes. He gave an easy chance when 72. No other batsmen could stay with Collins, who continued a faultless and tireless innings, always waiting for loose balls and never altering his rate of scoring. The innings closed four runs after he was dismissed. He batted for 265 minutes without giving any chances. Mr. Smith states definitely that Armstrong will bo unable to play during the remainder of the tour. Details of tte play are : AUSTRALIA. First Innings.
Bowling analysis—Marx three for 85, Nupen none for 86, Carter six for 91, Blanckenberg one for 105, Nourae none for 44, Ding none for 20. NORTH TARANAKI COMPETITIONS. SATURDAY’S MATCHES. The cricket competitions were continued in North Taranaki on Saturday. In the senior grade Old Boys defeated Western Park by 121 to 87. Playing at Inglewood High School secured the verdict by 206 for 3 wickets to 130. New Plymouth played Waitara, at Waitara, and were defeated by 90 to 77. • A GRADE. OLD BOYS v. WESTERN PARK. Old Boys met Western Park at Western Park, and defeated the Park team by 121 runs to 87. For Old Boys the most successful batsmen were Quilliam (23), Willis (20), and Bewley (17). For Western Park A. E. Macdonald made 28, Halley 19, R. B. Macdonald 14, and/ Russell 10, these being the only batsmen of the side to reach double figures. The scores were : OLD BOYS.

The New Plymouth A team travelled to Waitara, and owing to a breakdown of the motor, they arrived on the ground about aiv hour late. However, Waitara consented to pldfy the match to save a forfeit, and defeated the New Plymouth team by 90 runs to 77. B GRADE. URENUI v. HARBOR BOARD. Playing at Urenui in the B grade. Harbor Board beat Urenui by 6$ runs in the first innings to L renui’s 45 Compiled' in two innings. Batting first, ‘Urenui were dismissed for 23 runs (J. Purfiie 8, W. Shing not oui; 7), by the deadly bowling of T. and G. Carey, the former taking six wickets for 17 runs. In their second innings Urenui made 22 (J. Purdie 5, e. Rumball 5), T. Carey taking five wickets for 12 runs, G. Carey two for 2, and Galbraith two for 3. Harbor Board made 6S, Galbraith 25 and I Fitzpatrick 2.3 being the only batsmen to reach double figures. Bowling for , Urenui O’Neill took six wickets for 11 runs. Rumball one for 21, Fitzgerald two for 24. The scores were : URENUI.

Western Park and High School 11. met at the Racecourse, and victory went to the suburban team by an innings and 9 runs. School made 21 (Ward 14) and 45 (Rickard 14, Moyes 12). Bowling for Western Park Kinsella took eleven wickets for 30 runs, Harrison six for twelve, Bullot three for 11. Western Park made 75 (Hoskin 18, Berg 12). Bowling for School Rickard took six wickets for 19 runs, Dinnis for 9, Hooper one for 15. NEW PLYMOUTH B v. TECHNICAL COLLEGE. Playing on the racecourse. Technical College defeated New Plymouth B by 107 to 25. In their first innings New Plymouth made 21 (Kinsella 11, Bowers 4), and in the second 86 (R. Oliver 27, Stephenson 18). For Technical College the highest scorers were Yardley 6 and Elgar 5. Bowling for New Plymouth, Kinsella took six wickets for 12 ma?
