PARLIAMENT.

HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES’ PURE SEEDS BILL. UNKNOWN WARRIOR PROPOSAL By Telcirapb—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. The House of Representatives met at 2.30 p.m. Replying to Mr. R. McCallum (Wairau), Mr. Massey said the proposed legislation relating to death duties would be retrospective, but he doubted if he could make the Bill a matter of “urgency”, as the Legislative Council had adjourned until Wednesday next. As soon as the debate on the Budget had concluded he would take the matter up. Replying to Mr. H. Atmore (Nelson), the Hon. W. D. Stewart said he would inquire why it was proposed, under the tariff to let butter paper in free and place a dirty on paper used for wrapping apples. There whs no doubt a reason for it.

Replying to Mr. W. T. Jennings (Waitomo),' the Hon. W. Nos worthy said there was great difficulty in framing a Pure Seeds Bill which would give satisfaction to all parties concerned. The Bill introduced last year was now under consideration and the committee would no doubt be glad to receive any information on the subject the honorable gentleman could give them. Replying to Mr. Jennings, who suggested that the remains of an unknown warrior should be brought, preferably from Gallipoli, and interred in New Zealand, Mr. Massey said he would ask Cabinet to consider the suggestion.

Replying to Mr. H. E. Holland (Buller), the Premier said he had come to the conclusion it was not necessary ta set up a special committee to investigate the statement made in the House that the Avondale Jockey Club had sent huge sums of money.to Wellington, presumably for the purpose of influencing members in connection with the Gaming Amendment Bill.
