VACUUM OIL DISPUTE. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, Nov. 9. While the dispute with the Vacuum Oil Company is, not settled for casual labor, men are accepting work in the store at the old rate. A full complement was expected this afternoon. Nine of the party that refused work yesterday accepted employment at the old rate of 2s per hour and 2Jd bonus. CHARGE OF THEFT. Wairoa, Nov. 9. J. A. Murray, storekeeper, Frasertown, was charged this morning with breaking, entering and theft of £5OO worth of goods from Cameron ' and Walker, Wairoa, and was remanded till the 16th. The police have recovered £325 worth of stock from Murray’s store. A considerable amount has not yet been discovered. Cameron and Walker estimate the total loss by robberies at £lOOO. MEDICAL QUALIFICATIONS. Auckland. Nov. 9. On the charges against Herbert A. Yeldham, of having practised medicine under the description of late actingsurgeon to the Defence and Defence Department, implying that he was specially qualified to practise medicine and surgery, Mr. Poynton, S.M., said it should be mentioned in justice that the defendant was not an ignorant quack, but a man of wide knowledge, experience and skill. His services during the war were accepted by the State in back country districts, where he had been of great service to the settlers. For these reasons only a qominal penalty of 40s would be imposed. This was increased to £5 Is to enable the defendant to appeal on the charges of having practised under the style and title of a surgeon and under a description implying that he held a degree of diploma. Defendant was convicted and discharged.
