Collins and Bardsfey carried their overnight score to 44 and Macartney then joined Collins. Playing daringly he rattled up runs, at a fast, rate, ignoring several bowling’ changes. Each batsman gave an easy chance, but both were refused. Collins finally fell to a good catch.—2 for 118. Gregory was missed before he had scored by Nupen, off his own bowling, but made only six. Macartney and Ryder kept the fieldsmen busy. The bowlers were frequently changed, but the partnership added 107 runs before they were separated, Macartney reaching his century.in 97 iminutes and w r as eventually nicely caught behind the wicket. Ryder quickly followed, beaten by Biackenburg. Carter’s bowling then met with some success, botli Taylor and Hendry' being quickly disposed of. Andrews, however, was going merrily when, the innings - ' was declared at 324. An hour remained for play and South' Africa again opened badly. Ward succumbing in the first over.
