IH-luck attended the South Africans on the resumption of play, Frank , succumbing to McDonald's first delivery.— Two for 9. Zulch and Nourse adopted a cautious attitude and carried the total to 62, 1 despite frequent bowling changes. The latter, . gave one difficult chance. When Ling partnered Zulch the batting livened up. The newcomer gave an excellent display of forceful hitting, the partnership adding 74. Zulch was caught when he had made 80 after a sterling, confident innings. Six wickets were down for 154, but Collins continued to make frequent changes in the bowling. The fielding was generally smart, but sometimes a bit slack owing to the heat. Ward and Blanekenburg batted stolidly and carried the score to 214. The former showed judgment and resource. Gregory was not only in great form with | the ball, keeping an excellent length, but he also dismissed three men with catches. Of Macartney’s 11 overs six were maidens. Malley was tried several times, but only managed to keep down runs. During the short time left to the Australians before bad light ■ stopped play, Collins was missed in the slins.
