CHARGE OF MURDER. By Telegraph —Press Assn—Copyright. Received Nov. 8, 9.20 p.m. Melbourne, Nov. 8. Joseph Cotter been committed for trial on a charge of the murder- of Olsen. —Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. A cable from Melbourne, dated October 21, stated: The renewal of the notorious ! Fitzroy gangs’ vendetta resulted in a man named Olsen being shot in the head in daylight in front of the house of a man named Cotter, who is a member of an opposing gang. It is stated that the shooting followed the visit of a number of men to Cotter’s residence, and there was indiscriminate revolver firing, in which women were 'wounded. Olsen was shot when escaping after an attempt to force an entrance to the house. Cotter was arrested. VOLUNTEERS FOR NEXT WAR. Received. Nov. 9.20 p.m. Melbourne, Nov. 8. The Defence Department is engaged on a scheme for the enrolment as vol--1 unteers of persons with knowledge likely to be of service in the event of 'war. will be no military age limit, the only requirement being a guarantee that the volunteer reserves will be available if wanted.
