SENSATIONAL TRIAL.
THE PARIS “BLUEBEARD." THE PRISONER SMILES. By Telegraph.—Press Asjn —Copyright Paris, Nov. 7. Extraordinary interest is taken in Landru’s trial at Versailles. The town was crowded, especially with women. The so-called Bluebeard entered the packed court smiling and showing entire self-possession. The reading of the ac- , cusation lasted several hours and included a statement of Landru’s intimate relations with. 233 women, detail’s of the murders, the burning of the bodies, and thefts. It was so monotonous that the president suspended the sitting for a while during the afternoon. The reading concluded at 5 o’clock. Landru, when answering the president, protested his innocence. One hundred and fifty witnesses will be called, of whom 140 are women. These filled a great part of the court, --’hey were of all ages from 20 to 50, and all classes from humble working girls to widows with comfortable fortunes.
