DOMINION BISLEY.
PROTEST AT CANCELLATION. VICTIM OF ECONOMY CAMPAIGN. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. A deputation representing the New Zealand Rifle Clubs’ Association executive waited on the Minister of Defence to protest against the cancellation of the annual Dominion Rifle Association meeting. It was pointed out that the decision had caused general disappointment. The Dominion Rifle Association meeting 'was the goal of Dominion rif|e shots, ■and had rendered good service to the Defence Department. All arrangements 'had been made, and among other thlhgs involved was notification throughout Australasia that the Gordon Highlanders inter-State match would be held in •Wellington this year. The Minister replied that the decision was dictated by economy. Cabinet had decided to cut down expenditure) and camps, which were more important than rifle meetings, had been cut out 'entirely. He agreed to again refer the matter to Cabinet, and in response to •a suggestion the Minister said it would be a good idea to wait on Mr. Massey.
