NURSERYMEN CONFER.
TARANAKI NURSERYMEN’S COUNCIL. THE ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the Taranaki Nurserymen’s Council was held at New Plymouth yesterday morning. Present: Messrs. V. C. Davies (in the chair), W. Pettigrew (Stratford; secretary), W. Moss (Ngaere), G. H. Staub (Hawera), F. J. Morshead (New Plymouth), G. H. Mills (Normanby) and Geo. A. Green (national organiser). Apologies for absence were received from Messrs. Groom and Alldndge. The annual report and balance-sheet were read and adopted. The financial position of the council was strong, while the report disclosed a very satisfactory condition in most departments of the work carried on. Eulogistic reference was made to the work of the Dominion organiser (Mr. Green). A resolution was passed unanimously requesting the conference to make the office of Dominion, organiser a permanent one, members stating that the results of the first year’s operations of the organiser had been eminently satisfactory. It was decided to approve the co-opera-tive advertising scheme which had proved itself very satisfactory in the past. The adoption of the standard sectional catalogue of the same sized pages as the standard rose catalogue was approved. The standard rose list was approved, and it was passed as a recommendation to the National Rose Committee that the general list be reduced to 200 varieties if possible. The idea of the combined catalogue, with a view to giving better service, was approved. The following remits to the conference in 1922, which will open in Christchurch on January 24, 1922, were passed, to be sent on to the executive for presentation to the conference: That quarantine regulations be drafted by the Government, and an island quarantine station established, to which all trees and plants imported be forwarded until proved free from pests and diseases. That a wholesale collection bureau be set up as a trial for one year. That the Government be asked to include in the Inspection and Registration of Nurseries Regulations provisions for the registration of all growers and sellers of trese, plants and bulbs. That this council approves the setting up of a school of horticulture for the ,Dominion, with a view to the effective training of men for the nursery and other i branches of horticulture. , The election of officers resulted in Mr. i V. C. Davies being again chosen chairman, Mr. G. H. Mills vice-chairman, and Mr. | W Pettigrew secretary. Messrs, Davies and I Pettigrew were nominated as delegates to the conference.
