Mr. Newton King is expected back from Rotorua and Auckland to-morrow evening.
Sir Joseph Ward, Lady Ward, and Mr. Pat Ward left San Francisco on Saturday morning by the Tahiti for Wellington. While in England, Mr. W. T. Jennings, M.P., met z Sir Joseph several times and had some interesting conversations with him. Mr. Jennings says that though Sir Joseph had recovered from a serious illness, he had lost considerable weight. He was, however, as energetic and enthusiastic as ever. The death took place at Wellington on Saturday, after a serious illness, of Mr. W. Beauchamp Platts, at the age of 66 years. Deceased was born at Harrow,’ England, and came out to New Zealand 35 years ago. He settled in thp Manawatu district, and later came to Wellington and joined the Treasury Department, in which he served for twelve years. He retired from the Treasury to take up the appointment of chief accountant for Messrs. J. H. Bethune and Co.. In 1909, or three yearp later, he entered into business on his own account as a public accountant and company secretary.
