Nicholson and A. R. Ryder. In discussing the New Zealand Tennis cham- . pionship, it was pointed out that efforts were being made to secure this season’s championships for New Plymouth. Members considered that the championships were due for New Plymouth, as the last occasion on which they were held here was about 15 years ago. ; The Wellington Association wrote stating . that an inter-provincial match between Wei- ; lington and Taranaki had been discussed by them, but before coming to any definite de- I cislon they wished to know the approximate date proposed by the Taranaki Association, and the number of players which it was proposed to engage. The match is to be played in New Plymouth. It was decided to recommend either six or eight players, and the date suggested was the last week In JanuIt was decided to adopt Ayres’ tennis balls for all association fixtures. Pursuant to the rules adopted a number of years ago between the Auckland and Taranaki Associations regarding the annual banner matches between the two provinces, it was decided that, since it appeared tiiat the banner had been burned in the Strand Arcade fire in Auckland, the Auckland Association be asked what steps, if any, had been taken to replace it. According to the rules, the association holding the banner is liable to insure and be responsible for it. The secretary was instructed to write to the Auckland Association, stating that, with the revival of interest in tennis in Taranaki. It was desired that a banner should be provided for competition. The secretary submitted a draft of a circular which it was proposed to circulate among

the Taranaki schools, with the object of popularising tennis in the schools. Entries for the schools championships will be called for from tlie various schools, rules for the matches and the dates for the closing of entries to be submitted later. The matches will probably be played about the beginning of February. The Education Board will be approached in regard to the circulation of the circular with the rules. Messrs. Ryder, Wynyard and Shipton were appointed a committee to manage the school competitions. A new set of rules were adopted, the former rules having become obsolete. The new rules provide that an association levy of 9d per paying member per annum shall be charged. Votes of thanks were accorded Messrs. Griffiths and Davies for donations of £1 Is each to the funds for the school championships.
