MATCH IN AUSTRALIA. McDEVITT BEATS RIPLEY. By Telegraph.—Press Assn —Copyright. Received Nov. 6, 5.5 p.m. Sydney, Nov. 6. McDevitt defeated Ripley by three lengtiis. The race was marred by two collisions. The pien were on even terms for the first quarter of a mile, when McDevitt became inclined to hem Ripley close to the shore. The latter moved out and a collision occurred, when both stopped and appealed to the umpire, McDonald, who ordered them to continue. Ripley had the best of the start, but McDevitt soon overhauled him, and was leading by five lengths at Cabarita. Ripley spurted and overhauled him at Henley and bumped Mebc. itt’s stern. Both appealed, but tiie umpire gave no instructions. McDevitt resumed rowing and won easily, Ripley easing up. In view of the mishaps it is expected another race will be arranged.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. ARNST TO ROW HADFIELD. By Telegraph—Press Assc.chiGov Wanganui, Nov. 5. Arnst and Hadfield signed articles this morning to row for the championship of the world on January 5 on the Wanganui River for £250 a side. In addition to Paddon’s challenge to row the winner, it is understood Hannan had paid a deposit, a fortnight ago with the Marlborough Express.
