OPENING OF THE SEASON. THE PARK CLUB. The official opening of the Park Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, on Saturday, was favored with splendid weather. Over eighty members and a large number of visitors were present. An apology was received from Mrs. Hill (vicepresident) , who was unavoidably absent. She wished the club a successful opening. The president (Mr. A. Knapp), in his opening spcsc.h, extended a hearty welcome to new and old members of -the club. He referred to the great improvements effected to the grounds during the last few weeks, and moved a hearty vote of thanks to the committee. (Applause.) In declaring the courts open for play, the president expressed pleasure at the large attendance, and the grea| interest being taken in the club, which augurs well for the coming season. Mr. W. Ambury, an ex-vice-president and old member of the club, congratulated the committee on the excellent condition of the grounds. In referring to the early days of the cUib, he described the rough nature of the grounds, and the large amount of work involved in laying out the courts. The grounds, he considered, were to-day a credit to the town. Mr. Ambury expressed the wish that the club would experience a very successful season. The courts, which were in good order, were fully engaged during the afternoon, some enjoyable games being played. During the last few months additional tennis and croquet lawns have been laid out. It is a matter for congratulation to the croquet members that the whole cost of) the new croquet lawn was defrayed by them, and it is now clear of debt. With a largely increased membership, there is every prospect of the club experiencing a most successful season. THE NEW PLYMOUTH CLUB.
