MURDER CHARGE REDUCED.
AUCKLAND STREET FIGHT. By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, Laet Night. Four Fijians —John Frank Pickham, Julian Florian, Charles McGoon and David Lazarus—were charged at the Police Court to-day with the murder of a Chinese named Du Moy, as the result of a street affray. Evidence was given of a general fight, one witness being under the impression that the rijians were the aggressors. One witness said he saw McGoor strike deceased and a Chinese identified him as the assailant. The magistrate said there was no evidence to support the murder charge against any accused. The charge against McGoon was reduced to manslaughter, and he was committed for trial. Peckham and Lazarus were charged with assault and fined £6 and £2. Florian was discharged, one witness having said he was too drunk to fight.
