The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company Limited, have received the following cablegram from their London house under date 28tb instant:— Wool sales closed firmly to-day. Home buyers principal operators. Compared with last sales’ closing rates the following are higher:—Fine and medium scoured crossbred and fine greasy crossbred, about 5 per cent.; medium greasy crossbred about 5 per cent, to 7% per cent.. Merino and crossbred, and coarse scoured crossbred lambs about 10 per cent, to 15 per cent.; scoured and greasy Merino and coarse greasy crossbred about 10 per cent, to 15 per cent. Crossbred slipe about 5 per cent to 7% per cent, lower. The following are average current London values for New Zealand greasy wool: Good Merino 18’/>d, medium Merino 15%d, inferior Merino 12%d, fine crossbred 15d, medium B%d, coarse crossbred (40’s) 6%-d, do crossbred (36’s) 6%d. LONDON MARKETS. HIGH COMMISSIONER’S CABLED REPORT. The Department of Agriculture has received the following cablegram, dated October 29, from the High Commissioner for New Zealand. Loudon» MEAT. New Zealand.—Quiet. White : October 29, 86s to 9£s per cwt., 9’4d to 10’4 per lb.; October 22, 92s to 100 s per cut., 9yid to JO-’id per lb.; October 15, 98s co 100 s per cwt., 10’/ z d to 10%d per lb. Colored: October 29, 80s to 90s per cut., to 9’Ad per lb.; October 22, 84s to 92s per cwt., 9d to 9%d per lb.; October 15, 90s to 92s per cwt., 9’Ad to 9%d per lb. CASEIN. Latest quotations are’: —French rennet, £63; Argentine luCtic, £5O; British rennet, £6O per ton. HEMP. Manila market dull and quotations lower. Values of J grade, July September to Octo-ber-December shipments, £3B per ton. New Zealand inactive, and values nominally unchanged from last week (viz., highpolnts, spot, £42; October-December and January-March shipments, £3B 10s per ton; fair, £37 lUs and £36 10s per ton respectively). WOOL. Sales have closed. Competition from- Home trade Las been most active. Continental buying dropped off about the middle of the series, but much larger proportion of offerings were taken on foreign account towards close. Merinos have maintained their opening rise, and closed 10 per cent, to 15 per cent, dearer. Fine and medium crossbreds have been irregular closing about 10 per cent, better; coarse crossbreds have improved, and recently met increasing competition, closing 10 per cent, to 15 per cent, higher than September. There have been heavy offerings of slipe, which have not met such good demand, and have lost about 5 per cent. Average closing values were:— 60-64 "s merino. Next series open on November 22. LONDON PRODUCE MARKETS. The Bank of New Zealand has received the following advice from its London office, under dete October 28:— Butter.--The market is quiet. Government, has lowered price to 192 s per cwt. Current quotation for free butter is 200 s to 204 s per cwt. Cheese. —The market is dull and declining. Current priees: Colored, 80s to 86s per cwt., white, 86s to 94s per cwt. Frozen Meat.—Wether mutton dull, unchanged. Ewes steady. Lamb is in poor demand. Beef steady. Current quotations: Wether mutton, light, 5%d to 6’Ad per lb. ; wether mutton, heavy, to 5d per lb.; ewve mutton, 4d to 5d per lb. ; lamb, under * 361 b. light, 7’Ad to 9d per lb. ; In nib, 361 b, to 421 b., 7d to 8d per lb. ; ox beef, hinds 5d to Gd per lb; ox beef, fores 4d to 4 T Ad per lb.; cow beef, hinds 4d to 4%d per lb; cow beef, fores 3d to 3’4d per lb. Messrs. Dalgety and Company, Ltd., report having received the following cablegram from their London house, under date of October 28: Butter.—Danish butter, demand checked owing to high prices asked, 238 s to 2425, out fair demand for new Australasian, finest quality salted. 175 s to ISOs, exceptionally 184 s; lower qualities, 150 s to 174s;' unsalted, supplies '•mall, at Gs premium.
