CHARGE OF THEFT.
A RACECOURSE INCIDENT. By Telegraph. Association Auckland, Last Night. Phillip McManus, with six aliases, pleaded not guilty and was committed for trial on a charge of attempting to steal from the person at the Auckland trotting meeting a wallet containing £52 and a tote ticket for £5. Evidence was given by Cecil Marsh; a leading cook on the cruiser Philomel, to the effect that he saw accused’s hand across his chest with a wallet half out of his pocket. He grabbed him, but accused bolted. He, however, was followed by a detective, who arrested him.
McManus was remanded for a week on a charge of absconding from bail on February 21, 1910, when committed td the Supreme Court for Sentence for t theft from the
