THE LONG FLIGHT.

CONTINUATION POSTPONED. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. The New Zealand Aero Transport Company’s DH9, which arrived here from Auckland yesterday, was to continue its flight from Auckland to Invercargill this morning, but indications of heavy westerly weather caused a postponement.

The DHt, which left Auckland about 3 o’clock ofl Saturday afternoon, landed at the Hawera racecourse just before 6 o’clock. The machine was sighted sev- 1 eral miles away, and when planing down ‘ circled over part of Hawera, the three being clearly seen, and then made a good descent on the racecourse. As the machine was approaching Hawera the mail train was coming into the station; and it. was interesting to make a comparison between the two means of travel. A passenger from Auckland by the aeroplane would be 2 hours 45 minutes on the journey, while a traveller by the trian w’ould spend a night and a day to reach the same destination. There was a large gathering of people at the racecourse, and keen interest was taken in the machine. The three travellers stayed the night in Hawera and set off at 7.45 a.m. in continuation of their journey .—Star.
