BRITAIN’S COAL INDUSTRY.
NEW SCHEME FOR REVIVAL. HUGE COST INVOLVED. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyrigtt. Received Oct. 25, 5.5 p.m. London, Oct. 24. In view of the serious position of the coal industry the Miners’ Federation has submitted to the Government a new scheme for the revival of the mduatry. It is proposed that- the maximum price of industrial coal should be fixed at 30s a ton delivered, including the cost of railway freightage, and that the Government, for a period, should make up the difference to coal owners and the railways. The scheme will involve a Government grant of possibly £8,000,000 to £10,000,000. —Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
