DISTRICT NEWS.
WHAREROA. (From Our Own Correspondent.) On Wednesday evening last a social was held in the Whareroa Hall in aid of No. 3 candidate for the Queen Carnival, Miss Mavis Death. A large gathering was present, including many visitors from Hawera and Tokaora. The evening was pleasantly spent in dancing to music supplied by Mesdaanes Benton and Quinn, with extras played by Mr Nicholson. Mr. Hy Steffert proved a capable M.C. Misses Rama, of Hawera, captivated all present with their solos and duets, and tad to respond to vociferous encores, the singing of dainty little Maori songs, with appropriate action, being particularly pleasing. The weather during the past fortnight has been very wet and boisterous, and a change for the better will be gladly welcomed.
