FOR BABY DAY.

CHILDREN’S AFTERNOON. FANCY DRESS DANCE. A children's dance was held in the Workers’ Social Hall at New Plymouth on Saturday afternoon, and there was a large gathering of young people in fancy costume. The function had been organised by Mesdames G. Millar, C. Denny-Brown and S. Russell, in aid of the funds for the flower stall to be conducted in connection with the Baby Day campaign on November 18. From a financial aspect the function was also' a very satisfactory one, the takings being about £24, and donations bring the total up to £27 12s 2d. The young folk had a very enjoyable time, and the variety of costumes presented a pretty scene. The judges (Mesdames C. H. Weston and E. A. Walker) made the following awards: Best Senior Boys: Terence Morgan (Eastern Boy) 1; Jenkin (Golliwog) 2.

Best Senior Girls: M. Fookes (OldFashioned Lady) 1; J. Perry (Bather) 2. Best Junior Boys: J. Weale (Coster) and Brian Ewing (Courtier), equal, 1; Andy Smith (Dutch Boy) and Bunny, 2.

Best Junior Girls: Jean Smith (Powder Puff), 1; Katharine Fraser (Ballet Dancer), Jocelyn Milroy (White Fairy) and Margaret Patterson (Yellow Daffodil) 2. Special prizes were awarded as follows: Jim Dawson (Green Gnome), A. Brodie (Leaf), Betty Bullock (Clown), Ed. Novak (Baggy Breeches), lan Millar (Kewpie), T. Thompson (Pierrot), J. Bewley (Pierrot), Peter Bartley (Cook). Prizes were presented to the winners by the president (Mrs. W. C. Weston).

The organisers wish to thank all who donated prizes, and the ladies who helped with the children’s tea. They also express their indebtedness to Messrs. F. Hooker, Collier and Co., A. Hasell, Pike and Waters, A. Goldwater. E. Cave, A. Veale, D. G. Morgan, C. Carter, and to Mr. Brabyn, who kept the hall prepared and rendered every assistance to those undertaking the work.
