CLARKE MEMORIAL HOSTEL.
OFFICIAL OPENING CEREMONY. Included in the programme drawn up in connection with the visit of their Excellencies the Governor-General and Lady Jellicoe to New Plymouth this week is the official opening of the Clarke Memorial Hostel. The ceremony, which will be performed by Lady Jellicoe, takes place on Friday afternoon. Tickets may be obtained for subscribers and helpers from Messrs. Hugh Baily and Amburys, Mesdames Walker. Weston, W. Ambury, O. Blundell and Mac Diarmid. Ticket-holders will be admitted to the lawn. The street will be closed to traffic under the direction of Mr. R, Day until the departure of the Vice-Regal Party; the public are requested to remain outside the gates till then.
The streets will be lined by High School cadets at 1.15, the guard of honor of cadets and Girl Scouts, will take up their place at 1.15.
On arrival, her Excellency will be presented with a bouquet by Miss List. The hostel will then be inspected, after which Lady Jellicoe will return to the platform on the verandah where she will be invited by the president to formally open the hostel. Her Excellency, will proceed directly to the balcony, where she will make a short address. Miss Birch, National Field Secretary of the Y.W.C.A., will also speak, Mr. List returning thanks.
Afternoon tea will be served in the drawing-room to their Excellencies, the board of the Y.W.C.A. and to the men’s advisory board. Tea will also be served on the lawn to visitors. Mrs. George’s orchestra will be in attendance. The Vice-Regal Party leave at three o’clock, after which the hostel will be opened to all who are interested
