LAND AGENT ADMITS THEFT. By Telegraph—Press Association. Christchurch, Oct. 21. William Allan Hopkins, land and estate agent, appeared on remand before the Magistrate’s Court on four charges of theft. He pleaded guilty to all charges and was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence. No application was made for bail. BREACH OF LIQUOR LAW. Walhi, Oct. 21. In the Magistrate’s Court C. A. Dillimore and P. Manning, who were concerned in bringing into Waihi a large consignment of whisky, presumably for sale in a no license area, were each convicted and fined £4O and costs. THE PROPOSED TYRE TAX. Wellington, Oct. 21. _ Representatives of the Taxi-owners Federation waiting on the Minister of Internal Affairs this morning to convey their views as to the form of taxation to be levied under the provisions of the Motor Vehicles Bill. The deputation explained that it was very much opposed to the tyre tax and was in favor of a tax on vehicles according to weight or type. The Minister suggested that the ' federation proposals should be handed to him so that they could be brought before the committee which would be appointed to deal with the motor Vehicles Bill. The federation too, he suggested, ' should send representatives before the committee.
