Tn the House of Representatives Mr. Hughes, replying to Dr. Page, stated that the Government regarded his amendment to reduce the defence estimates by ten shillings as a want of confidence motion. Dr. Page must have known that when Jie moved it, otherwise he was unfit for the position of leader of the Country Party. The debate on Dr. Page’s motion was resumed to-day, when a division is expected. It is forecasted that, even if the Laborites support the Country Party, Mr. Hughes will manage to scrape through. NATIONALIST PARTY. TN NEW SOUTH WALES. Sydney, Oct. 20. The Nationalist Conference carried a resolution against State control of industries, and in favor of continuing steps to heal the breach with the Progressive Party, with the object of joining forces against the Government at the elections. A deputation of unemployed, appealed to the Nationalist Conference for assistance in obtaining work, stating that they were making the appeal because the Labor Party had turned them down. The Conference passed a resolution adopting a number of schemes for the promotion of industrial peace, including the abolition of the Board of Trade, with the retention of the living wage on a more equitable basis, the establishment of conciliation boards on the Whitley scheme, encouragement of cooperation and co-partnership, industrial pensions to workers permanently injured, a supplementary living allowance from the national income for widows with dependent children, incapacitated workers, and low-wage earners with families, and the extension of aid to house building. Sydney, Oct. 21. The Nationalist Conference adopted a resolution in favor of a reduction in Parliamentary salaries from £875 to £5OO.
