THE GOVERNMENT CANDIDATE By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, Last Night. Mr. Clutha Mackenzie, the Govern ment candidate for Auckland East, ad' dressed a large meeting to-night. Urg ing the need for economy he said Mr Massey would, fulfill all his promises. H< severely criticised the railways, sayin* the long suffering public was beginniD* to resent a system which was tyrannica. beyond words. He suggested a limitec express on the Main Trunk and th( abolition of long stops for meals, sub stituting the English system of the col<s luncheon basket. He advocated closer, settlement. He defended the Government against the charge that it was responsible for unemployment. Advocating forestry he said that in mapping out new country the first to cast their eyes over it should be forestry and agricultural officials to decide what was required for forestry and water conserva- ' tion and what was best for agriculture.
