DISTRICT NEWS.
CARRINGTON ROAD. (From Our Own Correspondent.) On Monday, October 10, a very large gathering of settlers on the Frankley and Carrington Roads met in the Carrington schoolroom to bid farewell to Mr. and Mrs. Grooby on their leaving the district after farming on the Frankley Road for over 30 years. Our district’s loss is Hastings' gain, as Mr. Grooby has bought a fruit orchard there, and 1 am sure we all wish him success in his new undertaking. Mr Frank Baker, on behalf of the people, asked the guests of the evening to accept a very handsome silver tea service as a parting I gift, and in his speech touched upon Mr. Grooby’s long connection with the Frankley Road Dairy Company. When the. company was first formed Mr. Grooby did all the secretarial work for nothing for the first few years. Mr. Grooby suitably returned thanks, after which “For They Are .Tolly Good Fellows” was sung, and later in the evening “Auld Lang Syne.” Dancing was much enjoyed to Mrs. Fred King’s excellent music, and songs that were sung by Mrs. King and Mr. Wytkins were encored. Dancing was kept up till 1.30 a.cn , when everyone had to go home in the injuring rain.
