A London cable announces the death of Mr. Peter Graham, the noted Scottish artist., Mr. F. B. Bolt, supervisor of the Government Insurance Department, is on a visit to New Plymouth. Mr. C. D. Sole, of Stratford, continues to make splendid progress towards recovery. At a meeting of the North Egmont Hostel Committee yesterday afternoon the resignation of Mr. A. E. Sykes was received, and Mr. P. J. H. White was authorised to AU the vacancy. Mr. J. A. Adams, head bill clerk, Bank of Australasia, Wellington, for many years, and formerly on the New Plymouth staff, has been promoted to the management of the Levin branch of the bank.
A Sydney message says that the Rev. Steel Craik, formerly Minister of Mount Eden Congregational Church and chaplain to the New Zealand Expeditionary Force, has been appointed chairman of the Congregational Union for 1922-23. A Wanganui exchange says:—“We understand that Dr. P. Marshall will be vacating the headmasters)!ip of the Wanganui Boys’ College at the end of the first 1922 term, and that the position will be filled temporarily by Mr. J. Alien, one of the present masters. Mr. William Henry Hazard, a wellknown business man of Auckland, and a prominent officer in the volunteer and territorial forces, died on Tuesday. Mr. Hazard was born at Thames in 1872, and was for many yeaxs in business in Auckland with his father.
Mr. F. R. Creasy, manager of the Nelson branch of the Union Bank for the past nine years, and previously for many years in Greymouth, having reached the age limit, is shortly retiring. Mr. Coghill, at present manager of the Dannevirke branch, and formerly o-f New Plymouth, relieves Mr. Creasy at the end of the month. News has been received by the American mail of the tragic death of Mr. John D. Sprekels junr., eldest son of Mr. John D. Sprekels, the San Francisco millionaire and principal of the Oceanic Steam Ship Company. He died as a result, of injuries received by a motor accident. He was driving, alone, and the car turned over on the FellowTaft highway, near Taft. Mr. Sprekels was pinned beneath the wrecked car, which is said to have rolled over several times, tearing out some 70ft. of fence along the highway. The late Mr. Sprekels was a prominent figure in San Francisco yachting circles, as well as being an ardent motorist.
