GOLDEN WEDDING.
AN INTERESTING FUNCTION. A function of great interest to Taranaki residents was held at Te Henui on Wednesday, when the golden wedding of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Rundle was *celebrated at their residence. The happy couple were united by Rev. Mr. Dumbell at New Plymouth on October 19, 1871. Mr. Dumbell, who is aged 92, is still living in Wellington. Both the bride and bridegroom's parents were pioneers of Taranaki, arriving by the ship Amelia Thompson. Mr. Richard Rnndle and Mr. Peter Elliot, with their families, passed through the strenuous days of old. Both Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Rundle were born in the .Dominion, and, except for a few months in Wanganui, have lived all their life in Taranaki. There were 10 children (5 girls and 5 boya). One boy died, and all the others were present at the golden wedding, with the exception of one boy. The Rev. J. F. Martin presided, and proposed the toast of the “happy couple,” referring to the Stirling worth of Mr. and Mrs. Rundle. Mr. Samuel Rundle responded, expressing his own and his wife’s appreciation of all good wishes. Mr. Samuel Elliot, of Waitara, proposed the toast of “The Fami.y, " which was responded to by Mr. Harold Rundle, who,, on behalf of his brothers and sister, paid a tribute of love to their mother and father. .« Mr. Kendall, of Wanganui, proposed “Old Friends,” and coupled with the toast the names of Miss Bassett and Mrs. Cowling, who had been guests at the marriage. To the great delight of all, these old friends struck a happy vein, and related their early reminiscences. ,
