BOXING.

SATURDAY NIGHT’S TOURNAMENT. PROFESSIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP. A meeting of the committee of the Taranaki Boxing Association was held last night to make linal arrangements for the big professional contest at New Plymouth on Saturday evening Mr. K. Whittle presided over a good attenc'Hiice of members. 'The various oflicials reported that everything was in readiness for the lournament, and that seating accommodation was being provided so as to cater for a record crowd. L. Cadman and his trainer (Mr. Porteous) arrived by the mail train last night, and were met at the station by Messrs. E. Jackson (deputy chairman) and E. Clarke (secretary). They afterwards attended the meeting. Cadman appears to be in the pink of condition, having completely thrown his bout of influenza. It was stated that the committee had engaged the lower hall at the Workers’ Social Hall, and that the boxers should spar In public each afternoon. Cadman will, accordingly, he on view this afternoon, whilst Jitney, who arrives to-night, will be seen In action to-morrow. Arrangements are also being made frt each to' spar in public on Thursday evening, Mr. Geo. Richardson having .signified his willingness to spar with each or either of them. All the amateur bouts should provide interesting contests, as the various competitors are In active training. The secretary reported that keen interest was being evinced in the bout, enquiries coming to hand for seats from all, over the province. The chairman suggested that the association should hold a tournament In Inglewood,' with a view to fostering the sport in that locality. Members considered the idea a good one, and it was suggested that they might also arrange to hold tournaments at . Waitara. ' Consideration of the matter was deferred until after the coming New Plymouth tournament.
