BOXING.

TOURNAMENT NEXT SATURDAY. The meeting of Laurie Cadman and Jack Heeney for the middle-weight champions? Ip of New Zealand at New Plymouth next Saturday is creating more than local interest, as both the contestants are boxers that nave been well tried in the ring. Further, the middle-weight championship is looked upon as one of the most important of tte championships. Heeney, who Is a "digger,” was unbeaten while at the front, both Jn France and in England, and he has defended his tltte~ as champion (middle-weight) in New Zealand with great credit. Cadman is as well known in Taranaki as he is in other parts of New Zealand as a coming man, and he seems to improve with each bout. He should make a great bid for the championship. New Plymouth w*as very fortunate in getting the championship match, and patrons of the manly art should show their appreciation of the local association’s enterprise. The lightweight bout in the amateur class will be between S. Hope (of New Plymouth) and V. Brosnan (of New Plymouth). Both these boxers are in good fonm, and Hope put up a creditable display at Wanganui last month. L. Cadman will arrive by the tmail train this evening, accompanied by his trainer. Heeney, the holder of the championship, will arrive to-night.
