MAORI YOUTHS IN TROUBLE. By Telegraph—Press Association. Carterton, Oct. 15. Two young Gladstone Natives, named Wiremu Namana (aged 19), and Wiremu Naera (aged 18), were arrested yesterday by Constables Miller and Colbourd on a charge of breaking and entering a storeroom at Gladstone and stealing beer. They appeared before Mr. W. A. Kitchen, J.P., this morning, and were remanded to appear on Tuesday, bail being allowed, each for £5O and one surety for £5O. EX-LAND AGENT'S BANKRUPTCY. Christchurch, Oct. 15. Willian Allan Hopkins, formerly land agent, now bankrupt, appeared on remand in the Magistrate’s Court to-day on four charges of theft of moneys entrusted to him. Counsel for accused stated that Hopkins was broken irt health, body and spirit, and did not intend to offer any defence to the charges. He was further remanded till Friday. ESCAPEE RECAPTURED. Te Awamutu, Oct. 15. Gordon Amundson, who escaped from the Waikeria Reformatory on March 9, was recaptured yesterday, and appeared in court this morning, when he was sentenced to two years’ hard labor as an incorrigible rogue. He was undergoing a sentence of three years’ reformative treatment for theft when he escaped His good conduct there earned confidence and he was placed in a position of trust in the dairy, but he abused that confidence by breaking away. Donald Scott, who was charged with the manslaughter of James Abraham, who was fatally injured in a collision j between a motoi’-car and a bicycle, pleaded not guilty and was committed for trial. Bail was allowed.
