A VAST TRUST.

SCHEME IN GERMANY. RELIEF FOR THE STATE. AMBITIOUS PROJECT. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received Oct. 15, 5.5 p.m. London, Oct. 16. A correspondent of the Observer states that Herr von Stinnes (the German industrial magnate) is organising a vast trust aiming at the control of every German industry, and turning the State into a powerful business combine, which will retaliate against any country discriminating against German goods. For instance, if a country keeps out German electrical goods the trust will refuse to purchase anything from that country or supply it with other German goods essential to it.

Berlin information states that Herr von Stinnes’ chief newspaper, the Allegemeine Zeitung, says private enterprise must take over the management of concerns which hitherto have been administered by the State or public bodies. This supports current rumors that the Stinnes trust is arranging to take over the State railways, the post office and other public services, placing them on a paying basis and relieving the State of huge deficits. The post office’s annual deficit amounts of 4,000,000,000 marks, and that of the railways to 15,000,000,000 marks.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable
