BANNER COMPETITION. NORTHERN DIVISION. The first round of the banner competition of the Northern Division of the Taranaki Bowling Centro will commence on October 29. and it has been decided that, the Gilmour Cun competition shall be played siunultaneously. the winner of the. Northern Division in the former competition becoming automatically the winner of the Gilmour Cup. The minimum number of rinks to he played, is to be five. Visitors from Hawera and Stratford were present, and were welcomed by the president (Rev. J. G. Castle). Mr. Smart, of Stratford, suitably replied. Last year's prize winners were presented with their respective trophies as follows: Rev. J. G. Castle, cup for championship; Mr. J. R. M. Stewart (singles), cup; Messrs. J. R. M. Stewart and C. K. Cumming, trophy for handicap pairs. Play was then proceeded with and resulted as follows. President’s team being mentioned first:—-Robinson 35 v. Judd 17; Smart 21 v. Fookes 15; Best 26 v. Heyes 17; Castle 19 v. Barry 26; Murray 19 v. Masters 26; Carter 11 v. S. Holder 19 ; Foy 12 v. Lyons 24. Totals.—President’s 143, vice-president’s 144.
