MAGISTRATE’S COURT.

NEW PLYMOUTH SITTING. The usual weekly sitting of the Magistrate’s Court at New Plymouth was held yesterday, Mr. A. M. Mowlem, S.M., presiding. OFFENCES AGAINbT BY-LAWS. . For riding a motor-cycle in Devon Street Central at a greater speed than 'l2 miles per hour Thomas Martin, a native of Pungarehu, was convicted and fined £.l (costs 12s); and for not having a muffler on his machine he was convicted and fined 10s (costs 12s). E. L. Lye. on the information of the Taranaki County Inspector, was convicted of riding a motor-cycle with a side-car on the main road between Waitara and New Plymouth after dark without light*, and a fine of £1 (costs £1 ss) was imposed. Eric Payne, a laborer, was convicted and fined £2 (costs 7s) for riding a cycle on the footpath in Eliot Street. CIVIL BUSINESS. In the judgment summons case of Geo. Pearce (Mr. Quilliam) v. Wm. Kinsella, the debtor, who did not appear, was ordered to pay the sum of £l3 3s 8d forthwith, in default 14 days’ imprisonment, the warrant to be suspended so long as the debtor paid off the amount at the rate of £2 10s per week. Creditor’s counsel was allowed one guinea costs.In the tenement case of Whitcombe (Mr. T. P- Anderson) v. Curran, a judgment was given for the amount of rent due ( £l7), and an Order was made for possession to be given by November 10.
