Representatives of the union ■ placed before members, in view of comling legislation, the union’s ideas on the [questions of banking, the marketing of . produce,,and the shipping of produce. During the meeting Mr. Massey arrived and said he strongly objected to some of the statements which were being made by some of those present. They had no right to go about the country as whiners and croakers. They were ! damaging the country’s credit. One member of the union stated that they were neither whining nor croaking, but stating the true position. Mr. Massey: It is not the true position. Such statements were liable to operate against the credit of the country. In support of the view he had expressed of the hopeful position of the country Mr. Massey read a cablegram he had just received from London announcing that wool had risen in price. The matter of taxation was also touched on by Mr. Massey, who declared that the rate of taxation had not been increased; any increase had been in the value of the land. Members of the union said what they objected to was having to pay more money by way of taxation.
