BOXING.
TARANAKI ASSOCIATION. TOURNAMENT NEXT WEEK. The full programme for the Taranaki Boxing Association’s big tournament, which takes place in the Coronation Hall on Saturday, the 22nd inst., appears in this issue. It is the most attractive programme yet attempted in Taranaki. The tournament was to have been held last month, but had to be postponed on account of the illness of L. Cadman, one of the principals in the professional bent. The star attraction will be the professional contest for the middle-weight charapicnshtp of the Dominion, the. contestants being Laurie Cadman, of Auckland (challenger), and Jack Heeney, of Gisborne (holder). The bout will be of fifteen rounds for a purse of £2OO (including expenses). Cadman is reported to be back in form again, while Heeney is stated to be in the pink of condiThe amateur programme is easily the best yet offered by the association. In the flyweight, A. Collins (of Stratford), will .meet D. Childs (of Stratford). In the bantamweight, M. Donovan (of Eitham) will be matched with S. Davis (of New Plymouth). Tlic light-weight contest will he between S. Hope and V. Brosnan, both of New Plymouth. The- contestants in the welter-weight will be Jack Willis, of. New Plymouth, and A. Ciarry, of Eitham. Mills, of Riverlea, will be matched with L. S. Pepperell, of Matapu, in the heavy-weight. The referee will be Mr Frank Burns, the w-. i-known Auckland referee. The prices of admission have been fixed at 10s, ss, and back seats 3s, and there will be a limited number of ringside seats at £1 Is. The box plan opens at Collier’s on Monday next.
