ORGANISING TEACHERS.
PROPOSED REDUCTION. TARANAKI BOARD’S POSITION. Advice was received by the Taranaki Education Board at yesterday’s meeting to the effect that the department, had decided on a reduction in the staff of organising teachers in four education districts. The Director of Education (Mr. J. Caughley), in conveying this decision, wrote: “From a consideration of the needs of the Dominion as a whole, the present allotment of organising teachers cannot be justified, and a more equitable distribution must be effected. The department, therefore, requests your board to effect a reduction in your staff by transferring two of the organising teachers to the ordinary teaching staff. It is suggested that you notify the decision of the department to the organising teachers in order that they may lake the earliest opportunity to apply for positions in their own and other districts.” The chairman of the board (Mr. P. J. H. White) said he understood that since the above communication was sent out the department was further reviewing the question. He thought that the board should endeavor to keep at least three of the organising teachers. The letter was referred to the teachers’ selection committee.
