A TEACHER’S RECORD.

PERIOD OF 37 YEARS’ SERVICE. RETIREMENT OF MR. F. TYRER. After 37 years’ service Mr. F. Tyrer, headmaster of the Stratford School, has tendered his resignation, a letter received from Mr. Tyrer at yesterday’s meeting of the Education Board stating that he found it impossible, owing to failing health and advancing years, to continue his duties. The resignation will take effect as from the end of the year. The chairman of the board (Mr. P. J. H. White) said the resignation called for more than passing comment. He said that. Mr. Tyrer’s chief qualification was that of organisation, and he attributed the success of the Stratford School to the ability shown by the headmaster in this direction. It was a very necessary qualification in such a position, and Mr. Tyrer had certainly distinguished himself. Mr. White expressed regret at the resignation, and said Mr. Tyrer would carry with him the best wishes of the board on his retirement.

Mr. 11. Trimble said there was no doubt that it was to Mr. Tyrer that the success of the school must be attributed. His great organising ability enabled him to get the best work out of the teachers. He had seen the school grow till it was one of the best known, and it was specially recognised for the rural work conducted. The board would be indeed fortunate if they secured another man capable of carrying on the work to the past standard. The following resolution was recorded on the minutes: “That Mr. Tyrer’s resignation of his position as head teacher of the Stratford Technical High School be accepted with regret, and that the board places on record its appreciation of his work during the last thirty-seven years, more especially of his activity in carrying out the advanced system of rural instruction, which has been one of the special characteristics of the Stratford District High School.”
