The Auckland East by-election will probably take place about October 31 In the House to-day, on the motion ol Mr. W T . F. Alassey, the Speaker was dileeted to issue a writ to fill the vacancy in the representation of Auckland East caused by the resignation of th< Hon. A. M. Myers. Air. Alassey said the writ would prob ably be issued on Friday, and the elec tion would probably take place about 1' days after that. He had not made it . practice to interfere with the officers o the department in the selection of th; date of an election, and he had no intention of doing so on this occasion, bui so far as he knew the election would b( held about the date mentioned.
