THE TARIFF BILL
APPEARANCE IN HOUSE. WITH FINANCIAL STATEMENT. (From Our Parliamentary Reporter.) Wellington, Oct. 7. Mr. T. K. Sidey (Dunedin South) asked the Prime Minister in the .House today. whether he could give the House information on the following points: When it was proposed to introduce the Tariff Bill, and whether it was the intention of the Government to put the Bill through this session. Mr. Massey replied that there was not'very much he could tell the member. The Bill would be introduced and would go through this session. He was confident about that. As far as the date on which the Bill would be brought down was concerned, he fancied the member would know that in nearly every case in which such a Bill had been introduced it had been laid on the table with the Financial Statement, and the •proposals contained in it came into operation at once, subject to any change that might be made afterwards. He thought that that was the course which would be followed this session. The Financial Statement was in course of preparation. He had not had much time so far to devote to it, but he thought he could say that allowing for the difference in the date of commencing the session this time, the Statement would not he any later than usual. He did not propose to waste any time. The Government desired to get through as much business as possible in the time at its disposal. If the business could be finished before the end of the year, well and good. If not, the House would have to go on.
