SOUTHERN MARKETS. CONDITIONS VERY QUIET. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christchurch, Last Night. All-round business in the produce trade this week has been extremely quiet. The i slight impetus given to the oat market about tbree weeks ago was only artificial, and today the top prices quoted were: A grade Gartons 2s 10d, B grade 2s 9d on trucks. Offerirgs from tte country are not heavy, but are ample for requirements. In sympathy with oats the trade tn chaff is also dead, and the rates quoted remain the same, viz., £3 and £3 5s at country stations. Seeds jire quiet all round. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Ltd., have received the following cablegram from their London house under date sth instant: — Tallow. —We quote present spot values for the following descriptions: Fine mutton £i 15s 9d per cwt.; good beef, £2 13s 6d per cwt.; mixed £2 5s per cwt. Market dull with downward tendency for good mutton. New Zealand Frozen Meat.—Lamb, 8 l-8d per ib. (average). Wethers and maiden eves, light 6%d per lb., heavy 4%d per lb; ev.es, light 4%d per lb., heavy 4%d per lb. Ox beef, hinds 5%.d per lb., fores 3%d per
lb.; cow beef, hinds 4 l-8d per lb., fores 25-8 d per lb. Market depressed and has downward tendency.
