The Australasian boxing championship - finals were decided at the Stadium tonight, several thousand being present. The-semi-finals in the bantam-weight preceded the finals. Details are:— BANTAM-WEIGHT, R. Purdy (Auckland), 8.1, defeated J. Pool (Tasmania), 7.11, on points, after four rounds of lively boxing, Purdy pleasing with his left and right hooks to the head and smart footwork. B. Ristuccia (Victoria), 8.2, beat V. Nolan (Queensland), 7.13, on points. Purdy beat Ristuccia on points. Both Were active for their second appearance in .the evening. Piirdy was always aggressive and found nia opponent a bit difficult to manage as the letter was a 'right-foot boxer. Ristussia scored with telling blows on the head, but Purdy notched a greater number of pointe. FEATHER-WEIGHT. A. Kay (Victoria) beat M. Hatton (Aucki land) on points. Hatton found himself • opposed to a rival with an awkward stance. • Kay was mostly on the run, and was • difficult to nail. Hatton’s blows ennsei quently fell short, which lost him the contest. LIGHT-WEIGHT. E. May (Auckland), 9.1 If, beat C. Sinclair (Queensland), 9.4 J, on points, after four rounds of skilful boxing, punctuated ■by much mistiming. May lost points ■ through over anxiety to land a knock-out. From hot exchanges at the close of the i last round May hit the boards for four i seconds. He rose very groggy, and the bell ! saved him. He had accumulated sufficient ■ points to give him the verdict, despite the knock down; still he was extremely lucky, as he would have been an easy prey for a knock-out had the bell not intervened. WELTER-WEIGHT. R. Finley (New' South Wales), 10.65, beat F. Martyn (Victoria), 10.6, on points. MIDDLE - WEIGHT. K. Meale (Auckland) 11.1 J beat M. Williams (Queensland) 11.1 J on pointe, after considerable clinching and scuffling. The contest was not attractive, but a number of solid blows were delivered to the head by Meele. HEAVY-WEIGHT. B. McCleary (Christchurch), 12.6 beat Jardine, 14.44, on points. McCleary' gave away practically two stone, in addition to being a shorter man. Jardine seemed puzzled at times where or how he hit the Welshman, but he managed to land hefty lefts and rights to thehead and body. Jardine endeavored to rush his opponent at times, but McCleary was too fleet of foot. Jardine was urged by the referee not to hold on. In the last round McCleary gave an excellent display, evading final onslaught, and easily secured the verdict. He was loudy cheered.
